Interesting, was looking for something like this but I don't get the picture how it is working. So after submitting this comment I might see how it will look. Let's see.

Ok, now I see. 4 more tags added. Well, this is not so good. On for example one of my PR6 posts I have 300+ comments. I will try paging instead.

    Hi Jim

There are obviously extreme examples, and having 300 comments on one page is a fairly extreme example.

If you combine paging of your comments with some kind of dynamic dynamic linking, you will see some benetit.

Also you can increase other elements on the page, such as recent posts, popular posts, related posts etc.

If you are using nofollow for comments (as I see you are), then there is less to worry about.

Depending on the type of blog however, you might get less trackbacks.

I like your link to me plugin btw, I was going to add the code manually, but I might try the plugin approach.

    Hi Andy,

Just installed the code on my own blog. I will probably move ti down for the tags to appear below the comments box. Don't you think it would be good a idea to hack "Related articles" plugin for the same purpose?
  • AndyBeard · 2 years ago
There is no need to use a related articles plugin with UTW, it is a built in function.

The only related post plugin I use is one to add the UTW related posts to my feed.

I will do a recap post with various way to add internal linking that is related to your page.

Google will never disclose the real objective/usability of "nofollow" tag. If google declared that it doesnt follow "nofollow" tag, then it doesnt necessarily means that you can add a-d-u-l-t or any other links on your website using nofollow :(.

Webmasters around the world believe in what google openly said in any conference (BLAH BLAH BLAH), but they never come to know what Google instructed their search operators/programmers behind the closed doors of their lavish offices ;).

Its best to rely on personal experience and online blogs. Several webmaters are still lurking in dark over the exact functionality of nofollow attribute, and how does it actually behave when confronted with Google, Yahoo or MSN crawlers.

Great post Andy. I also just read your how a blogroll can kill your pagerank and I didn't realize how much link love I was giving away. I used to have about 20 but I got rid of half. I only kept the ones that loved me back haha. Thanks for the info!

OK Andy, good policy of allowing links without the nofollow for legetimate posters but I see the links here have a rel=external --- what does that do or not do?

I came across your blog via your comment on Court's blog. Great info here. Being a recovering geek (now in real estate), I love the minutiae of how the technology works and the tricks to make it work better for you. You gained a new RSS subscriber!

Andys information is usually spot on. I am a little late arriving to this post. I am wondering if the attitude is still the same regarding nofollow? I think that we might be seeing a resurgance of follow blogs now, it really is just a matter of monitoring your comments for quality. I think the rewards are worth the effort.
