I'm wondering the same thing Jack is. Paid links do occasionally show on my main page, And setting robots.txt not to index may main page would probably be just short of suicidal in terms of spidering.

I'm sure I could remedy links showing on the main page if I had to, I doubt that it would harm my revenue stream significantly. I'm very interested to know if Google will honor your request. Just like Jack, the site I'm referring to dropped from an estimated PR5 to a PR0 overnight. While the loss hasn't cost me a single visitor, it IS putting a dent in my ability to gain advertising.

One of the most overlooked SEO plugins is something I knocked up a while ago

I should really do something for people who have dodgy themes with a sitewide sidebar using widgets as well

Andy I have one major question about the way you are blocking robots and how it satisfies the requirements of Google.

My understanding and please correct me if I am wrong is all your paid reviews go into a common directory and that directory is noindexed. Fine I get that and you nofollow links on duplicated pages like anything using /search etc. Great got it.

My question is there not still an issue with the post when it is on the first page of your blog? During that time is it not both crawlable and able to pass juice. Sure it is only there until you post enough to bring it off page one.

Not poking holes mind you, I am looking to do the same thing on my former PR5 now PR0 blog. Just wondering how to handle that last loophole. Can't wait to hear what you get as a response from Google by the way.

Google is KILLING US! In te words of Jim Cramer "they know NOTHING!" But seriously, the amount of turmoil they have caused in the blogosphere is almost criminal. They have sacrificed content in favor of ranking... and I don't like it one but. Best of luck to you!

I think that your way approaching the issue should be actually accepted as a standard among PPP bloggers. I am not trying to kiss up here. I have changed my position on paid reviews. I think most of bloggers not attempt pay reviews if they can't follow your example.

I am looking forward to update on this. Maybe Matt Cutts will graciously offer you a tip of the heat for setting an example.

Andy, please keep us updated with any new developments, either in the way of responses (which I would expect you would not actually get) or in demonstrable changes to the penalties themselves.

As to the post not appearing in the serps... there seems to be an issue with my site at the moment, and it is having trouble keeping pages indexed in a non-supplemental kind of way. I'm pretty sure I know the reasons why, but am looking into the circumstances surrounding those whys at the moment. :) I will let you know what I find out.
