I hand ad for some domains. But there are several categories of reasons one might want to auto-ad.
Here is one (true story). I used to co-blog at feminist blog. , The main blogger (who is a very nice guy and financially strapped), was approached by a porn outfit. He sold the domain with the feminist blog got to continue to use the blog area so the blog would persist. Meanwhile, the porn company set up links on other pages that gave their porn business a SEO boost.
So, there were loads of other feminist bloggers with lots backlinks to interesting articles who would have wanted to automatically list them "nofollow" in order to not provide link juice to the pornographer, but to keep their own blog articles pointing to the original link. Because these were old links, it's difficult for the blogger to find them and manually add "no follow".
When I wrote the first draft of this plugin, I was immediately pmed by three people in a second group: bloggers who wanted to auto-insert no follows in paid-post once the TOS permitted that. So, I added that feature to the plugin. Now, bloggers who want to use it can maintain google rank, adhere to the TOS of their program and adhere to any and all contractual obligations.

Here is one (true story). I used to co-blog at feminist blog. The main blogger (who is a very nice, financially strapped guy ), was approached by a porn outfit. He sold the domain with the agreement the feminist blog got to continue to use the blog address. This meant the blog would persist which was important to him; (he isn't anti-porn).
Meanwhile, the porn company set up links to their porn sites on other pages of their site; their intention was their porn business a SEO boost on words often used on feminist sites. (Due to subjects discussed, these actually overlap with porn search terms really well!)
Naturally, this arrangement was discovered. Not surprisingly, it turned out there were loads of other feminist bloggers with lots backlinks to interesting articles who wanted to automatically list them "nofollow". They didn't want to provide link juice to the pornographer, but they did want to keep their own blog articles pointing to the original link.
Because these were old links, it's difficult for the blogger to find them and manually add "no follow". So, I was partly thinking of this issue when I wrote the first portion of my plugin.

I got the same errors. My comment didn't show, so I reentered. Now it's here twice. (How embarrasing!)

So how exactly are you using the 'No Old Spam Links' plugin?

I saw the wisdom in blocking a domain site wide and took the WP plugin code for the nofollow wikipedia and added a data base call and wrapped it in a class to make a NucleusCMS plug in that blocks as many domains with nofollow as you wish.
I think that level of control is important for many of the reasons already mentioned.
By the way, do you mind if I link to you in my new ebook?

The autor of Spam Karma was notified about the problem with WP 2.2.1 a couple of weeks ago, and it is not the only plugin having problems as I noted recently with the sociable plugin.
Hopefully things will be fixed soon, but comments do get through to the backend even with the error.
First comments usually make it through the filters, but sometimes if people are using various IP masking or don't support javascript their first few comments can have a problem.

Hi Andy, are you referring to paid reviews? Why do you need to put in nofollow links after some time - is it becos it'll affect the blog ranking with external links going out?
I look on every link I give as editorial and every review as cornerstone content, so it is my choice, and all links that start off being followed remain that way.
This plugin gives you a choice.
I am also of the opinion that Google should count the links in my reviews as editorial links of value, and the reviews themselves as valuable content.
Google might disagree with me, or their algorithms aren't able to judge the difference between a 50 word review and 2000+ words
