Absolutely agree that articles are seeds of knowledge. I run my own article directory and during the process of approving new articles often catch myself in deep reading of different subjects that in other way I would never look for.
    Thanks for your good site.

Andy, I see you posted this a while back. Do you still have the same thoughts on article marketing?

This is something I've actually done a great deal of testing with. I love article marketing and I've found a great deal of success in it so naturally, I've tested different versions of articles in different niches submitting to article marketer (400+ article directories) and submitting to 5 of the better article directories.

I've tested the articles that I used to test my tested articles :) I've written tested with different titles, signature blocks, writing styles, formats etc etc etc

The result, submitting to the top 5 or so article directories brings in more visitors.

Well it takes you more time to submit to 5 than to submit to Article Marketer, unless they for some reason reject an article (which I know can be a problem, I have had some weird rejections, as I think most people who have used them for a long time have)

It is almost impossible to test, because every article performs differently.

Article Marketer submits to those 5 top directories so you would still get that traffic.

Traffic form the other 400 varies, and sometimes it moght only be the directory owner.
In addition you have to calculate the time spent in managing the emails you tend to receive - I am setup to have everything that I have to receive as only digest or if possible not to receive emails from all the mailing lists.

Then there are the Article Directory owners who think that submitting an article to them mean that is a reason to bombard you with emails about products, without a method to unsubscribe.
Some I have emailed and they replied that fair enough, if I don't want their email they will remove me from their system, including all articles.
If I feel I am being abused, I end up directing all their email to spam or autodelete.

I don't see much traffic from such articles, and the links are low quality, but they do get picked up and syndicated.

I will do another test run shortly with a series of 10 articles to a specific squeeze page and publish some results.

"Thus there are probably as many bibles in the world as people"

That sounds a bit difficult to believe! :/

    @Andy,
there are lots of tools available (most famous is brad callen's tool); they submit your article to hundreds of directories, means it is spreading duplicate content on web and it will increase extra headache for google too (as i read somewhere that google is removing duplicate content pages from its database) but if such types of tools are there on web how can duplicate content be removed as they submit in bulk.

Maybe it is just me, but the smaller article directories just don't seem to work as well as the top 5 article directories. But I admit that the top five (including EzineArticles) greatly increase traffic to my site!

In my personal experience and opinion Duplicate Content is like the boogy man. It does not really exist except in our minds. Most think that duplicate content is what you get when you submit the exact same article to more than one place on the internet, but that is not correct. The penalty from Google comes when you link the exact same content to the exact same content.
