Looks like this will be fun to watch and hopefully it will give me some ideas of my own.

I am looking forward to seeing how this works out. a couple of years ago I put up some of those rssg sites that had little content but were really made for adsense and I still make $20 a month or so for a few hours spent once so long ago.

If you have a nice easy template that you can dump content into you can make these sites very quickly, upload them, promote them some and see if Google will like the within a few days.

    That's interesting, and I do believe niche's aren't easy...that's for sure.

    1. Release crap (improve later, but start making money with your crap)

That's great. I've often thought that, but this is the first time I think I've ever seen anything like it in print. Until you start getting traffic it doesn't matter, because clearly Google and Co can't identify crap from quality.

I'm confused, Blogrush=crap? and it's been sitting in your sidebar since day1. What's up with that?
  • AndyBeard · 1 year ago
I was quoting from Franck who was quoting John, though it is something that is taken out of context a little, and whilst I can't refer you to the specific document, it certainly sounds like something John would have written or said.

The key is to not procrastinate trying to create perfection, because nothing is ever going to be perfect, and once you achieve perfection, it might not make any money.

Much better to get something out there (this is a general rule) than to try to perfect something that isn't going to work.

With Blogrush John could have spent another year working on it, and it still wouldn't have been perfect. It is quite possible he also spent too long working on it, that happens, certainly with me.
  • Franck Silvestre · 1 year ago
Blogrush isn't crap mate. In fact, I wasn't even referring to Blogrush when I said that. Just what I learned from John.

I still have the widget because I know that John is working on this.

    Sorry for the confusion...

As for being in the sidebar from day 1... This is again "Speed of Inplementation".

    1. Release crap

One of the sites I make the most on was initially released with crap (barely rehashed wikipedia content). It made a few buck here and there, but nothing major. But those few bucks helped pay for some better, unique, content and marketing. Now it ranks on the first page for a legal/financial term.

I think the benefit of releasing that way is it's faster. By then going back and adding better content you have that benefit of a more "aged" site than if you waited to launch. At least that's been my experience.

    Hi Andy,

Thanks for featuring my post here. It's amazing. Your blog is an "Authority" for me...

Just wanted to clarify things a little bit...

I learned so much from John and specially from this sentence (release crap).

It was an article... I just tried to find it, but without success.

Anyway, Andy said it best "Much better to get something out there (this is a general rule) than to try to perfect something that isn't going to work."

Think about windows xp, vista and microsoft. That doesn't mean that it is "pure crap", but that it's "almost finished"

    All the best Andy.

Pierre Trudeau once said "It is better to have an imperfect SOMETHING than a perfect nothing"

I tell this to all the nay-sayers at mom's groups who want to make money with a blog BUT
    - don't know how to build a website
    - don't know anything anyone else would care about
    - don't have time
    - are not good "at that kind of thing"
argh. I tell people if you can send an email you can write a blog.
Just jump in and learn as you go.
I will admit that when people start reading and are faced with finer points of blogging/affiliate/marketing/SEO they get freaked out and run.... bit intimidating to some one starting out.

I was looking forward to more reading on your 31 niche websites and also the actual 31 niche sites. Did this fall through or have I missed something?

I like the idea of "releasing crap" and then making it better. To me it seems to be the most practical way to go as you can see which crap is going to be a better investment and then focus in on it and the rest can just, well, go down the tiolet and flow into the ocean of obscurity :-)

    cheers

Hmmm...this is interesting. 31 niche websites...that's awesomely fast - from researching on niches and keywords to building a blog or website with enough content and lots of backlinks. I can't even figure out how to do that. I hope you could show us those sites.

For newbies like me, we just have the tendency to spend too much time and effort on trying to come out with a perfect site or blog without realizing that it slows us down way too much.

In internet marketing, I guess what counts is to work as fast as you can in the best way that you can.

I would really like to see some examples that others have created in the different phases. I have been wanting to start a blog related to art glass and glass jewelry but have felt paralized to do so. I also wanted to do something that would support our main site and provide some advertising $$. I have names picked out with good SEO potential but haven't done anything yet. This information is good to provide the additional nudge to get me started.

One quick question: Is it better to leverage the existing site's URL (PR5) or should the blog be under different URL. Thoughts on common look and feel between the 2 sites would also be appreciated.

Eben Pagan is fantastic. I first found out about him through his pseudonym, david deangelo. My friend ordered his altitude training (couldnt afford it), didnt get around to watching it, and barely ended up returning it in time to not be billed.

Mark Twain found his writing style by mirroring others.
    Thomas Edison borrowed from others
    Albert Einstein borrowed from others.

The most successful rarely come up with their own completely new material or ideas. They just take existing ones and do it better than anyone else. They arent better at coming up with ideas, theyre just better at running with them.

I agree completely with the "release crap" statement. This is a problem that most beginners run into and many of my friends that I have taught article/affiliate marketing to have problems with this. They think everything has to be perfect, when in reality it just needs to be findable. Even a crappy landing page will convert if you send enough traffic to it. Getting them out there is #1, then go back and make some adjustments after you find something that is working a little for you.

From my limited experience, I feel that it's a bit of a volume game. The more sites you can get out there, the better your chances some will "make it". Some crap will turn to gold, some won't. Is it 31 sites because that's one a day for a month?

The secret ingredient in choosing a strong niche market
I started out with reading Holly Mann's "Honest Riches" all the ebook said was that niche markets are tough to find. Then I did SBI, there was a whole weeks worth of lessons dedicated to developing your site concept. Basically :
    1. Start with 3 site concepts. Something you like enough to write content about constantly
    2. Check the supply and demand of your market on Google
3.Secret ingredient people forget about---Is there a starving market?? This is key
    Best of luck!
